Orpheum Children's Science Museum

Ever since the industrial revolution, science has driven the global economy. It is key to our continued success and advancement as a nation. However, indicators from research, notable experts, and US authorities show an increasingly troubling trend. Our children do not perform well in the subjects that lead to a career in science. The percent of students enrolling in the sciences in college has remained the same since the 1970s. A number of other developed and developing nations are producing three or four times as many scientists, engineers, and technologists each year. The number of women and minorities entering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields remains remarkably low. Thousands of high-tech jobs go unfilled each year for lack of qualified talent. Just about every school district in the US needs more math teachers.

We have chosen to make a difference in this situation by offering a thrilling science camps and events full of exciting experiments and projects and fun field trips. Our kinesthetic approach means every camper gets to participate hands-on in every project and experiment.

Here are some ways you can contribute to developing tomorrow's science leaders:

Donate cash. There are many families who desire to give their children this unique opportunity but cannot afford the cost of the program. Your financial donation can help children from such families share in the excitement of the camp and be wowed about a future career in science. Click here to donate now. The Orpheum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This means your donations is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Sponsor a child. Many parents call our program indicating that their children would like to attend camp but they do not have the means to pay the modest tuition. If you would like to sponsor an interested child whose parents cannot afford to pay for camp, please call us at 217 352-5895 or email to contact us.

Donate equipment and supplies. Our camp is currently in need of computers, laptops, projectors, printers, copiers, microwave ovens, small refrigerators, notebooks, backpacks, telescopes, microscopes, thermometers, hygrometers, drills, flasks, stirrers, boilers, solar panels, batteries, goggles, mechanical tool kits, and other scientific equipment. Please email or call us at 217 352-5895 to let us know what you can donate to our camp.

Donate lunch. Few things build community and friendship better than breaking bread together. Our campers bring their own lunches daily. However, we welcome your gift of lunch for one day, a week, or an entire season to assist parents. Please email or call us at 217 352-5895 to donate lunch.

Sponsor a field trip. Our campers frequently venture out into the community to one of many attractions in the region. The cost of transportation, admission, and guided tours can add up to $40 per child. You can support our campers by sponsoring one or more trips. Please email or call us at 217 352-5895 to sponsor a trip.
